Acceptance of These Terms
Welcome to Law Help Colorado (the “Website”), located at www.lawhelpcolorado.org. The Website is operated by the Colorado Access to Justice Commission (“we,” “us,” or “our”). These Terms of Use (“Terms”) govern your access to and use of the Website and all content, tools, and resources made available through it.
By accessing or using the Website, you agree to these Terms and to our Privacy Policy, which is incorporated by reference. If you do not agree, please do not use the Website.
Purpose of the Website
Law Help Colorado provides free legal information to help Colorado residents understand their legal rights and options and, where appropriate, represent themselves in civil legal matters. The Website is an educational resource. It is not legal advice and does not serve as a substitute for the advice of a licensed attorney.
No Legal Advice; No Attorney-Client Relationship
Lawhelpcolorado.org provides legal information. We do not provide legal advice.
Legal information is general in nature and explains how the law typically works. Legal advice applies the law to your specific facts and circumstances, and only a licensed attorney can provide it. Nothing on this Website constitutes legal advice, and nothing on this Website is a substitute for consulting a licensed Colorado attorney about your specific situation.
Your use of the Website, including reading articles, downloading forms, or contacting us, does not create an attorney-client relationship between you and the Colorado Access to Justice Commission, its employees, commission members, contractors, content authors, or any attorney who contributed content to the Website.
Because no attorney-client relationship is formed, communications you send to us through the Website are not confidential and are not protected by attorney-client privilege.
The law changes frequently, and legal rules vary depending on your circumstances and where you live. Content on the Website may not reflect the most recent changes in the law. Content is written for Colorado law and may not apply in other states.
Not a Referral Service; Emergencies
The Website may include directories of, or links to, legal aid organizations, court self-help centers, and lawyer referral services. We do not endorse, recommend, or guarantee any particular attorney or organization, and we receive no compensation for listings or links.
If you are experiencing an emergency or are in immediate danger, call 911. Do not rely on this Website in an emergency.
Deadlines and Court Rules
Legal claims are subject to strict deadlines, including statutes of limitations and court filing deadlines. Missing a deadline can permanently end your legal rights. The Website cannot calculate or track deadlines for your case. You are solely responsible for identifying and meeting all deadlines that apply to your situation, and we strongly encourage you to consult an attorney or your court promptly.
Forms and Documents
The Website may link to or provide court forms, sample documents, and templates. Courts frequently update their forms, and the version available on or through the Website may be outdated. Always confirm with the relevant court that you are using the current, correct form. We are not responsible for the outcome of any matter in which you use a form or document obtained on or through the Website.
Translations
Some content on the Website is available in Spanish. Translations are provided for convenience and accessibility. While we strive for accuracy, legal terminology is difficult to translate, and a translation may contain errors or omissions.
Permitted Use and License
We grant you a limited, revocable, non-exclusive, non-transferable license to access and use the Website and its content for personal, non-commercial purposes, including self-representation, and for use by nonprofit organizations, courts, libraries, and educators assisting members of the public.
You may print or download content for these purposes, provided you keep all copyright and attribution notices intact and do not modify the content in a way that changes its meaning.
Prohibited Uses
You agree not to:
- Use the Website in any way that violates applicable law;
- Sell, resell, or charge others for access to Website content;
- Misrepresent Website content as legal advice, or represent that you or your organization authored content that you did not;
- Use automated means (bots, scrapers, harvesters) to access the Website in a manner that burdens our infrastructure or circumvents access controls, except for standard search-engine indexing;
- Attempt to gain unauthorized access to any portion of the Website, its servers, or connected systems;
- Introduce viruses, malware, or other harmful code;
- Remove or alter copyright, trademark, or attribution notices; or
- Use the Website to harass, defame, or harm any person.
Intellectual Property
The Website and its content — including text, graphics, logos, and the selection and arrangement of content — are owned by the Colorado Access to Justice Commission or its content partners and licensors and are protected by United States copyright, trademark, and other intellectual property laws. “Law Help Colorado” and associated logos are trademarks of the Colorado Access to Justice Commission. Official public-domain materials, such as statutes and court forms, are not claimed as our property.
Third-Party Websites and Content
The Website contains links to third-party websites, including courts, government agencies, and legal aid organizations. We provide these links for your convenience. We do not control third-party websites and are not responsible for their content, accuracy, availability, or privacy practices. A link does not imply our endorsement.
Accessibility
We are committed to making the Website accessible to people with disabilities and strive to conform to the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1 Level AA. If you encounter an accessibility barrier, please contact us at contact@coloradoaccesstojustice.org so we can assist you and address the issue. Please see our Accessibility policy for more information.
Disclaimer of Warranties
The Website and all content are provided “as is” and “as available,” without warranties of any kind, express or implied, including warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, title, noninfringement, accuracy, completeness, or currentness. We do not warrant that the website will be uninterrupted, error-free, or free of viruses or other harmful components, or that content reflects the most current state of the law.
Limitation of Liability
Pursuant to Colorado Statue, (§ 13-5.7-103, CRS) members of the commission, staff, and consultants are not liable for any act or omission in their official capacity performed in good faith in accordance with this article 5.7.
To the fullest extent permitted by law, the Colorado Access to Justice Commission, its commission members, officers, employees, volunteers, contractors, content authors, and partners will not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, exemplary, or punitive damages or for any loss of rights, claims, or remedies arising out of or relating to your use of or inability to use the Website or any content, even if advised of the possibility of such damages.
Some jurisdictions do not allow the exclusion or limitation of certain damages. In those jurisdictions, our liability is limited to the fullest extent permitted by law. Nothing in these Terms limits or waives any protection available to the Colorado Access to Justice Commission, its volunteers, or its directors under applicable law, including the federal Volunteer Protection Act, 42 U.S.C. § 14501 et seq., and Colorado statutes limiting the liability of nonprofit directors, officers, and volunteers, including C.R.S. § 13-21-115.5 and C.R.S. § 13-21-116, all of which are expressly reserved.
Indemnification
You agree to indemnify and hold harmless the Colorado Access to Justice Commission and its commission members, officers, employees, and volunteers from claims, damages, and expenses (including reasonable attorney fees) arising from your violation of these Terms or your misuse of the Website.
Privacy
Our Privacy Policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, and the rights available to you. Please review our Privacy Policy.
Changes to the Website and These Terms
We may modify, suspend, or discontinue the Website or any content at any time without notice. We may update these Terms from time to time. When we do, we will change the “Last Updated” date above and, for material changes, post a notice on the Website. Your continued use of the Website after changes take effect constitutes acceptance of the revised Terms.
Termination
We may suspend or terminate your access to the Website at any time, without notice, for conduct that we believe violates these Terms or is harmful to other users, us, or third parties, or for any other reason.
Governing Law and Venue
These Terms and any dispute arising out of or relating to the Website are governed by the laws of the State of Colorado, without regard to conflict-of-laws principles. You agree that the state and federal courts located in Denver County, Colorado will have exclusive jurisdiction over any dispute, and you consent to personal jurisdiction and venue in those courts.
Miscellaneous
If any provision of these Terms is held invalid or unenforceable, the remaining provisions remain in full force. Our failure to enforce any provision is not a waiver of it. These Terms, together with the Privacy Policy, are the entire agreement between you and us regarding the Website. You may not assign these Terms; we may assign them in connection with a reorganization or transfer of the Website. These Terms do not create any third-party beneficiary rights, and nothing in them waives any statutory protection available to us.
